As known today, the decade-long wait was not worth it, as the launch of Diablo III ultimately disappointed the fans. The game faced various issues, which included a persistent balance problem. Diablo III, a game encouraging active loot collection for fun, was disrupted when the idea of in-game purchases amongst the players in exchange for real money got incorporated. The idea of an Auction House seemed like an exciting concept in Diablo III.

How did Diablo III Auction House function?

The Auction House of Diablo III did add a touch of excitement to the players. The functioning of the Auction House was that the players could access the in-game sale. They did put on their traditionally collected loot on sale, which allowed them to get more character-specific items. It allowed them to get real money in return for all the hours they had spent hacking away at the demons in the game. But, the loot of Diablo III did not satisfy the fans. There was a lot of loot pouring out of the slain enemy bodies in the game. But most of the loot was of either low quality or was not valuable for the chosen class of the players. This dissatisfaction with the loot offered in the game gave the tempting rise of the Auction House. It provided an easy outcome of the game allowing the players access to whatever they wanted from the deals available. The poor server issues with the offline inaccessibility of the game made Auction House popular.

Auction House did introduce the interest in the play-to-earn games. These play-to-earn games allow players to sell and trade using the reward tokens. The players are focused on gathering the tokens and then using them to trade items in exchange for real-world money. Tokens like Axie Infinity, serving the same purpose as Auction House, attracted many players, allowing them to make money in a new way.

But these play-to-earn games might face sudden consequences along with their players. Diablo III got saved as Blizzard made positive changes, one of them including dissolving the Auction House. Thus, it did help Diablo III receive the success it has today.
