Square Enix celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Kingdom Hearts series with a special Kingdom
Hearts event today. The event honored the franchise's history and legacy while also providing new
glimpses into what's to come in the future. During the presentation, two new games were showcased in
particular. We first saw Kingdom Hearts: Missing Link, a mobile game currently in development for iOS
and Android devices. Then, out of nowhere, Square Enix announced Kingdom Hearts 4, a game set in a
completely new world.

Kingdom Hearts 4 is in development, according to Square Enix, and it looks a lot different than the
previous games. It was shown out in a seven-minute trailer alongside a new mobile game called
Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, which we'll get to in a minute. Also, a spoiler alert for the events in
Kingdom Hearts 3, as the conclusion of that game, is required to comprehend the sequel.
The fourth game in the series is expected to be very different from what we've come to expect from
Kingdom Hearts. For one thing, rather than being set in fantasy landscapes that are brilliant and colorful
and entice you to explore the unknown, Kingdom Hearts 4 is set in real-life Japan with no obvious
changes to make it stand out. Sora is shown in the trailer in the new world of "Quadratum," which Square
Enix is described as "a big, expansive city set in a magnificent, realistic setting unlike anything seen before
in the Kingdom Hearts series." Quadratum is still a city in Japan, but it is a fictional one with massive
monsters and urgent hazards lurking around the corner, ready to attack at any moment.

Sora was last seen in an alternate Shibuya in Tokyo, which was later discovered to be a city called
Quadratum. In the Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer, we see a very realistic-looking Sora waking up in an
apartment in the same city, complete with whole new clothing. Strelitzia, a character who also perished in
the mobile game Union X, greets him. When a big, perhaps heartless creature appears, Sora rushes in
to rescue the day as usual, but this time with a few new techniques. He uses a technique that appears to
be a hook shot coming from the sword's chain, as well as a few more moves while wielding his beloved
keyblade. There are plenty of wall-running and jumping through crumbling building sequences in this
Kingdom Hearts game, which is as action-packed as you'd expect from a Kingdom Hearts game.

The clip closes with Donald Duck and Goofy searching for someone in a dark cave. After that, a blue
flame appears, and someone asks the Disney couple where they're heading. Because there is only a
Japanese trailer, it's difficult to tell, but it sounds like the Japanese voice actor of Hades from Hercules,
thus it's possible that the two are hunting for him, given that he is the god of death.

Intriguingly, Kingdom Hearts: Missing-Link, a whole new mobile game, is also in development. This game
will take place after the events of the previous mobile game Union X, however, it will be totally in 3D,
unlike the previous 2D game. It appears to utilize worlds from Kingdom Hearts 3, as well as having
changeable characters and the ability to play with strangers. Later this year, a closed beta test will be
held. In addition, the conclusion to Kingdom Hearts: Dark Road has been confirmed to be coming in
August, having been originally scheduled for release in Winter 2021. It's safe to say that today's
announcements are a veritable feast for Kingdom Hearts aficionados.
