The latest, The Williams Sendoff, Apex Legends, has made it evident that the game has no room for any worthwhile change. The developer, Respawn, has arguably kept developing this battle royale game but lacks meaning as the plot is entirely hero-driven. In general, all the hero-centric service designs the games to keep the games' longevity after release in mind, which is why it falls short in the plot's narrative with time.
These hero-centric plots thrive in a comedy television series, but this structure is not enough for an action-packed drama. Not only does the storyline become repetitive, but also the game's characters also lose their momentum. To keep the characters in the game, Apex Legends dodges the possibility of bringing some relevant changes to the plot. For instance, the developer, Respawn, cannot take the risk of writing the fate of the characters. Loba could have a relevant structure where she gives up on fighting Revenant to focus on building a family with her girlfriend, just like the one she had. On the other hand, the developers could even let Horizon travel back in time and unite with her son again. These engaging outcomes would have led these characters to leave the universe of the Apex Legends.
Not removing the heroes from the story also has its fair share of relevance. If the creators do end the storyline's characters, there would be outrage amongst the Apex game players. As they have paid real money and have worked on these characters for various hours, removing them from the plot would seriously affect the game's fanbase.
The latest, The Williams Sendoff, also struggles with the same issue as the playable characters strive in the hero-centric plot, lacking relevance. The story of Apex Legends is brought to a halt as all of the game's lead characters compete in the play. So far, it is evident that Respawn will keep all the main characters active in the competition until the game ends. But to bring substance to the plot, the game must look deep into the character stories other than just putting them against each other in competition.
