Overwatch, Blizzard's 2016 hero-shooter hit, is on its way out, to be replaced by Overwatch 2 after an open beta later this year. With the development team hard at work on the new game, Overwatch has been slightly left behind, as has a specific skin, much to the anger of certain fans.

Instead of one-of-a-kind legendary skins, this year's Anniversary event promises to return fan favourites and the unlocking of skins previously exclusively available through limited-time challenges. As a result, Overwatch fans were hoping for the appearance of another rare skin - Pink Mercy. This rare skin, one of Mercy's many popular costumes, has been sought by Mercy mains and casual players alike since its debut in May 2018 as part of a Breast Cancer Research Foundation charity drive. Now, four years later, the skin has failed to return to retailers, leading players to wonder when if ever, it will be revived.

A thread on the Overwatch subreddit recounts the divided reaction to this news; although some are still outraged, others underline the favourable attention that the skin has received. According to user ThaRippa, "unique skins being scarce makes even more people consider buying them," with the FOMO factor motivating users to part with their cash for a good cause.

Others argue that, rather than reintroducing Pink Mercy, Blizzard should design a new charity skin. With the present humanitarian situation in Ukraine, firms such as Blizzard have contributed a percentage of their income to relief efforts. A new, limited-edition skin would not only boost sales but also raise awareness for the cause.

With everyone's attention focused on the debut of Overwatch 2, the time has come for a new charity event. Pink Mercy garnered over $10 million for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, and with so many other great causes to support, it's time that other groups have the same opportunity.
