One of the oldest games in the modern gaming world, Metroid has continually served as a great gaming experience for the players. Metroid, created by Nintendo, was initially released in 1986 and has since been Nintendo's integrated series. This series has also not received many games or expansions like The Legend of Zelda or Mario. But with its latest release, Metroid Dread, the series has influenced various new games redefining the Metroidvania genre.

The game Metroid is a single-player action-adventure game developed and published by Nintendo. Metroid has won various accolades as its initial release dates to the late 20th century. It is the pioneer of the Metroidvania genre, being originally directed by Masao Yamamoto and Satoru Okada. Metroid is a classic gaining popularity as it was the first video game to feature a female protagonist.

Now let's find out the ranking of the Metroid games:

Super Metroid
Metroid Prime
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Dread
Metroid: Samus Returns
Metroid Fusion
Metroid II: Return of Samus
Metroid
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Metroid: Other M

Super Metroid is a significant masterpiece and template for various modern games. Like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and the Super Mario 64 games, Metroid Prime is one of the respected expansions of the Metroid series on Nintendo and was the first 3D version of the series. Metroid: Zero Mission brought the old flavour of the Metroid concept, while Metroid Dread introduced some new features like EMMIs, and robotic guards adding a new flare to the game. Metroid: Samus Returns was a great remake of Game Boy and introduced many new elements. Metroid Fusion packed an overall satisfying gaming experience alongside Metroid II: Return of Samus. Metroid created an all-new sub-genre for action games, though it ranks lower than the other expansions. The others, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, did live up to the critical expectations of the game, but Metroid: Other M was a decent game that introduced the features of melee combat.

Hence, the Metroid series still holds a spot as one of the influential games of modern times, playable on the Nintendo Switch.
