Despite the fact that Nintendo is no stranger to paid expansions these days, the fresh wave of content for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is noteworthy for a few reasons. For one thing, the Booster Course Pass DLC's sheer bulk is impressive. The number of racetracks in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will have doubled by the time all the courses are available, which is incredible considering how many there were before. Furthermore, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe isn't really a recent release.

When you consider how popular Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is, the magnitude of the Booster Course Pass DLC makes sense. It's the best-selling Switch game to date, with over 40 million copies sold, so it's no wonder that Nintendo wants to cash in on that massive following. The Mario Kart 8 Deluxe era, on the other hand, is something of an exception. If Nintendo can bring Mario Kart 8 Deluxe back after all this time, it's quite feasible that it'll provide additional material to other titles from the Switch's early years. In the coming years, DLC game revivals might become a staple of the Switch's line-up.

Even though Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the Switch's best-selling game, the platform has a lot of essential but older games that might be updated in the near future. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an especially strong contender. Breath of the Wild, a critically lauded Switch launch title, is still one of the console's best-selling and most popular titles. Nintendo has previously released DLC for it, but with Breath of the Wild 2 on the way, Nintendo may release a minor DLC that acts like a teaser and advertising for the sequel by building up the next game's plot.

When it comes to surprise DLC, Super Mario Odyssey appears to be another strong contender. Fans and journalists alike praised this imaginative 3D Super Mario game, but owing to its 2017 release date, fresh material for the game hasn't appeared feasible until now.

Nintendo's future DLC roster is unlikely to consist only of references to earlier games, to be sure. Because Superstars is more relevant than a new Super Mario Odyssey expansion, rumours concerning Mario Party Superstars DLC appear more realistic. Even yet, nothing is guaranteed with the Booster Course Pass. Nintendo is eager to return to even the oldest Switch games in order to surprise fans with fresh content, making Nintendo's next move even more difficult to anticipate than normal.
