CD Project Red has announced that the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 DLC DLC is still in the works. Although there's no word on when the expansion will be released, the fact that it's still coming is fantastic news. Whereas the new Witcher will run on Unreal Engine 5, the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC is still being created using CD Projekt Red's REDengine, according to a statement revealing that The Witcher 4 is officially in the works.
"We're transitioning from REDengine to Unreal Engine 5 for the next game in The Witcher series," the developers said in a tweet. "However, the technology that drives Cyberpunk 2077 is still being used to produce the future Cyberpunk 2077 expansion."It's no surprise that the DLC will use the same engine, but this is the first time we've heard about it in a long time. Aside from the free DLC that has already begun to arrive for Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR has remained tight-lipped about what to expect from the larger expansions. The studio indicated before the game's release that Cyberpunk would get "more" DLC than The Witcher 3, which got two major expansions, but we didn't hear much about it when CDPR was rushing to get the game's countless patches out.
The company announced the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion was in the works back in November but gave no clues on what the DLC would entail. Cyberpunk 2077 received a PS5 and Xbox Series X update, as well as a large patch 1.5, early this year. Faster loading times, ray tracing, and a slew of other technical and cosmetic enhancements were included in the update. Those improvements were supposed to arrive in 2021, but they didn't until early this year. It appears that no one knows when the expansion will be released.
CD Projekt Red has declared that The Witcher 4 will be a "new chapter for the brand," but no further details about the game have been revealed. The statement did, however, include a teaser image of a cat medallion, implying that the series will now focus on Ciri's plot.
