It is difficult to now believe that the highest selling game of all time was released 9 years ago, but what isn’t difficult to consider is that it is still raking in the cash via the most successful online service that a game could have.
GTA V became a critically and commercially acclaimed title and a cultural phenomenon when it launched in summer 2013, and has steamrolled every single popular franchise on its way to the top. Over the years, developer Rockstar’s fantastic GTA Online service and the consistent drips of content provided to it have managed to make it a robust fanbase of players, recently having released the biggest DLC to grace the game; The Contract, featuring talent such as Dr Dre.
And even though we live in a world whereby some miracle there is confirmation of the next GTA, which is a work in progress, by Rockstar, the current instalment has maintained its record breaking run at the top, which is quite difficult to believe considering we have seen Batman: Arkham Knight, Metal Gear Solid V, God Of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and more generation-defining titles come and go after GTA was released.
Regardless, the fifth instalment in this behemoth franchise is now getting yet another next-gen port, first receiving one to bring the quality up to par with the eighth generation of consoles. Rockstar has confirmed that GTA V will be brought up to PS5 and Xbox Series standards in a statement released earlier this month. But what is more baffling is that it will have a price tag attached to it, and won’t be free to purchase as most upgrades are.
The PS5 version of GTA V will be priced at $9.99, and bring with it free online play until the 14th of June, while being $19.99 on the Xbox systems with the online aspect costing $9.99 until the date mentioned above.
