The highly anticipated horror soulslike, Dolmen, has finally got a release date, and it seems like we don’t have to wait much longer to get our hands on it. Mark your calendars, ladies and gentlemen, as leaks have suggested that May 20 is the date of release for Xbox, PC and PlayStation systems.

Drawing heavily from games such as The Ascent and The Surge, the game is looking like a proper hellscape for fans of the genre to experience. Hinting at co-op, as well as a dark and gloomy atmosphere, a teaser for the game, was released in August 2021.

Dolmen is anticipated to be a hack-and-slash with soulslike elements such as low damage tolerance for the main character, harsh environments and enemies, a rich, open sandbox and the bare minimum when it comes to story elements and a general narrative.

Having said that, the hype for this offering from Brazilian developer Massive Work Studio isn’t very recent. The Kickstarter campaign to make the game a reality actually went live in 2018, and has been garnering much attention and praise for the steady teasers and gameplay snippets that we have seen so far.

The game’s fan Wiki reads - “When an earthling awakens in the middle of Revion Prime, where the greatest massacre of the galaxy has occurred, one should not expect him to go very far. Not if all the animal life of this place wants to shut his noisy heart up and finally go back to sleep above the corpses of endless nameless races that rot under the sky.

But who is this person? And why is he or she so far from home? The Earth is just a distant memory, there is no crew and the resources are nearing the end. Wouldn’t it be easier to hide and die in silence inside the shelter of the ship’s remains?”
