Recently, Twitch mentioned that it has observed a huge hike in the number of hate raids targeting LGBTQIA+ streamers violating the strict community guidelines. Twitch has already made a conscious effort by banning a number of accounts promising to adhere to the community guidelines and take legal actions whenever required.
Hate raids in Twitch have been a burning issue for a long period. Lately, Pokimane was one of the streamers who had to suffer the consequences of this burning hatred. Jidion-Pokimane controversy flooded the internet with fierce hatred against each other, which was later sorted out by both parties. Hate raids have caused enough trauma and stress to the LGBTQIA+ streamers especially, women. People from the streaming community have raised concerns regarding the same.
The company stated, “Over the past 24 hours, bad actors have been coordinating off-Twitch to target women and LGBTQ+ members of our community with spammy and hateful chat messages.”They further stated, “Hate has no place on Twitch, and we’ve identified and suspended the Twitch accounts of the individuals participating. Our Safety team is actively reviewing reports and suspending users in violation of our (terms of service).”
Although Twitch is committed to making a harassment-free community, rather than only relying on a ban they are trying to opt for alternative legal options that can protect the user's rights and freedom at the same time.
Twitch is further extending their help to the streamers by guiding them through settings management of their account effectively. They have suggested turning on their AutoMod strength, turning Followers-Only chat on, enabling email and phone verification, and only allowing raids from friends to stem the harassment.
