Felix 'xQc' Lengyel hit back at Mizkif's claims that women are bound by a "glass ceiling" on Twitch, insisting that it's mostly a matter of strategy and approach.
xQc who recently also spoke about Twitch’s monetizing features and how it doesn’t actually detract from the overall experience has spoken up regarding Mizkif’s comments.
According to Mizkif, women had "much easier" times with Twitch streams exceeding 100-200 viewers. As opposed to Mizkif’s remarks xQc said, there is no "glass ceiling", as it is almost impermeable. In general, he believes it is true, but it depends on the type of content they promoted and whether they were paying attention to the viewers.
He mentioned the glass ceiling during the interview, saying: “If you cater heavily to parasocial viewers and give them what they want, you’re giving them attention. But what happens when numbers scale up? People get less attention, so they watch less.”
“If you focus from the get-go on being entertaining and making an entertaining stream, regardless of attention given to individuals, you overall will break through that ceiling,” he stated. “This is half-true and half disingenuous,” mentioned xQc. “If you take the argument at face value, this is correct. It’s true women overall have an easier time getting to the 200 – 300 viewer mark because of certain appeals.”
As a result, xQc thinks it doesn't influence everyone on Twitch. Women are more likely to hit the 200-300 viewer level when they use these strategies, he claims. “It is easier for women to get to that 200 – 300 viewer mark with these techniques,” he told. “But you’re only going to hit the ceiling if you direct things this way.”
The mention of Pokimane by xQc exemplifies this. She catered to people at times, but later on, she concentrated purely on games and amusement, which are two very different things.
