When it comes to multiplayer games, especially PvP games, one of the most annoying things that can happen is either the network issues, one of your teammates quitting, or someone cheating. PvP modes pit same-sized teams against each other, and if even one person from the team leaves, there is a major disadvantage for that team. Now, this gets even worse in the competitive or ranked modes. In most games, there is a penalty for leaving games midway in ranked modes, if you have played games such as DOTA 2, Valorant, or Counter-Strike Global Offensive, you would know about that.
Call of Duty: Vanguard recently got its Season Two update that added a huge chunk of content to the game. This includes new maps, weapons, etc. Ranked mode is also one of the things that got added. Now, although a competitive, ranked game mode was added, it seems that the developers did not deploy the necessary measures to prevent people from leaving or quitting midway. This resulted in people frequently quitting ranked games midway, and leaving their teams at a disadvantage. And, in a ranked mode that is one of the worst things that can happen to you. This would not only leave you at a disadvantage as you have one member less on your team, and your opponent team has more members. But, it would also ruin the experience of the players in the leaver’s team.
Well, it seems that the developers did not want to let this continue for much longer. Just a few days ago, it was confirmed by Lead Game Designer at Treyarch, Lawrence Metten himself that there will indeed be penalties for the quitters. A player Tweeted asking about penalties for leavers in Vanguard. To that query, Lawrence replied saying that there would indeed be disconnect penalties, and they are coming. Now, the update adding these penalties to the game is here!
What are the penalties for quitting a Vanguard ranked game? According to a new tweet from Lawrence, there are “new SR and Ladder Point penalties”. So, if you end up quitting mid-game in ranked play, be ready to face these consequences. Now that the penalties for the leavers and quitters are added to the game, we should be seeing a major drop in the number of people leaving the game midway. This was a much-needed update and this should definitely improve the player’s experience in ranked play now.
