Konami forgot to renew its domain for Silent Hill’s official domain, and someone actually ended up buying it. And, this someone is not Konami, or anyone related to it. Yes you heard it right, as unbelievable as it might sound, the domain for Silent Hill’s official website lapsed, and someone actually ended up buying it. This is not any random domain, it is the official domain of Silent Hill, silenthill.com.
For those of you who are unaware, when you do not renew the domain, it will lapse, and then it will be up for sale to anyone who pays for it. Konami forgot to renew the domain for Silent Hill, silenthill.com, and some random person on the internet actually ended up buying it for himself. And, now Konami no longer owns the domain silenthill.com. We are not joking, this is literally what happened.
The Silent Hill franchise continues to be one of the most popular ones made by Konami so far and is undoubtedly one of the most popular series when it comes to the Horror genre. This makes the fact that Konami let the domain expire for it even more surprising. Also, this is not the first time that Konami let the domain for Silent Hill expire. This same thing happened back in 2019. However, back then Konami managed to renew it in time, shortly after the lapse. But, this time, it does not seem they were all that quick, and someone else managed to do it before.
So, now that someone else has got the domain, what did that person do with it you might be wondering? Well, if you head over to silenthill.com, all you would see is a screenshot of a Tweet from Masahiro Ito that reads “I wish I hadn’t designed fxxkin Pyramid Head”. For those of you who are unaware, Masahiro Ito has played a major role in the production of all the Silent Hill games. And, this tweet was actually made by him just a week or so back.
As things stand currently, the domain for Silent Hill is not owned by Konami anymore and is instead owned by some random person on the internet, who definitely seems like a troll. Anyway, now if Konami wants back the domain, then it will have to be bought by them from the person who has it currently. Or, Konami might just switch to a different domain altogether. Who knows?
