Age of Empires III has been out for quite a while, in fact, we even got a definitive edition, which is simply a remaster for the game back in October 2020. And, just like the main game, it was also well received by the community. However, something which always left a sour taste in the mouths of its players is the lack of official co-op support. Despite the game having been released seventeen years back in 2005, official co-op support is something that was implemented just now. The game had support for online multiplayer, however, campaign co-op is not something that it had for this long. But, now with the recent update, it finally is available in not only Age of Empires III, 2005 original, but also in the 2020 Age of Empire: Definitive Edition.

But, it is not the full campaign. Instead of the latest update, players can now play the game’s Historical Battles in co-op. There are twelve such battles which are all based on historical events and all of these are available in Age of Empires III. Now, with the latest update, you can play in co-op with your friends. Furthermore, this also includes all the maps of the DLC expansions, and the best part is that it would only need one of the players to own that specific DLC expansion. As for those wondering, that the game might be too easy now, that will not be the case. Instead, the difficulty has been scaled up in order to make things more difficult and challenging. There would be two AI opponents for these co-op matches.

The process of hosting one of these co-op sessions is simple, and straightforward, just as it was with the multiplayer ones. All you have to do is go to the multiplayer page and pick the co-op battle as the game mode. Then, you change the privacy settings as per your needs, and that is it.

This is certainly a good addition, especially for those, who have always wanted to play Age of Empires 3 in co-op. So, if you are one such person, then that is great for you!
