Activision Blizzard announced their last quarterly earnings report of 2021 through a
press release yesterday. It was an unusual move by the company, but soon everyone
realized the intent behind this decision. They have provided a roadmap regarding the
future of their franchise games. One notable point is the plan to release a mobile game
for the Warcraft franchise.
As Blizzard is responsible for everything related to the Warcraft franchise, this
disclosure was under their section of the quarterly earnings report. They plan to develop
substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022. They also want to release an
all-new mobile Warcraft content for handheld devices for the first time. It might be the
first official Warcraft-themed MMORPG or RTS game introduced for the mobile
platform.

It is not surprising that a Warcraft mobile game was announced now as Bobby Kotick,
the CEO of Activision Blizzard had already provided hints in the financial earnings report
of the last year too. The step can be seen as the company's plans to branch out into the
mobile gaming market. Their Diablo Immortal mobile game has already become quite
successful. Previously, the game was heavily criticized and even received backlash
from fans of the Diablo franchise. But the latest results of its public testing have come
with a lot of positive feedback from players. Even Call of Duty: Mobile has garnered
more positive reviews from both casual players and veterans of the franchise. This
mobile game has risen to be one of the best FPS titles on the platform.
The mobile gaming market is rising exponentially each year. By successfully releasing a
dedicated Warcraft-themed mobile game, Activision Blizzard has a chance to gain a lot.
They can gain a substantial player base and help develop it into a dedicated community
that has the potential to expand like how it happened with World of Warcraft - the
original.
