Techland has revealed lots on what we can expect from the upcoming, and very much hyped Dying Light 2. However, just a few days prior to its release, we now get to know that Dying Light 2 will be using the Denuvo Anti-Tamper DRM system. It came to the surface as part of a back-end Steam update. Now, if you check the Steam listing for Dying Light 2 Stay Human, it would clearly mention the inclusion of Denuvo DRM protection now. What is Denuvo? Well, it is a DRM protection that prevents piracy, to explain in brief. And, that would definitely make sense. I mean such games take so much effort to develop, and at the end, if everyone ends up pirating it, then that would be really unfortunate.
Now, many of the fans are upset due to this. The reason is that for Denuvo, you would have to always be online to play the game. However, the main reason that disappoints users is the dropped performance levels due to the implementation of Denuvo DRM. However, Techland has confirmed that the player’s gameplay experience would not be impacted due to the implementation of Denuvo DRM. They would continue putting extra resources for testing the game, and at this tage they do not see any noticeable impact on the performance. Furthermore, they would be actively reviewing the player feedback during the game’s launch.
Techland says that Dying Light 2 Stay Human was in development for a long period of seven years. Throughout this long seven years, more than fifteen hundred people had invested their time, talent, and effort in making the game. In order to protect the efforts of the team from piracy that they initially faced with the release of Dying Light 1, they have added the Denuvo DRM system.
In my opinion, this was definitely the proper course of action. After all, who would want seven years' worth of effort from more than fifteen hundred people to get wasted? Although it is to be seen how Denuvo is implemented, Techland has ensured us that it would not affect the game’s performance as we have seen it in many games before. It would be quite a shame if we get to see that the game suffers from performance issues due to the implementation of Denuvo, but let us see what actually happens.
