Totally Accurate Battlegrounds is a battle royale game that came out a few years ago and unlike other battle royale games such as PUBG, Fortnite, etc., this game took a very different take on the genre, it was a lot more fun with various comic elements, and made the saturated battle royale genre stay fresh and also very much fun. Totally Accurate Battlegrounds became free to play even less than a year ago. However, now it seems that the game is officially dying. The developer of Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, Landfall has announced that the number of players for the game has significantly reduced and it is unlikely that the game will be receiving any more new content updates.
The server will still be up, however, in terms of new additional content, there is apparently not much that the players should expect. Totally Accurate Battlegrounds was launched back in 2018. It was a parody and was made as a tie-in to another game from Landfall, Totally Accurate Battle Simulator. Although it was made as a joke, it turned out to be quite popular and had tons of players playing it on the first day of its release. Later, the player count dwindled significantly, and then last year in April 2021 when the game became free to play, the player count increased again and had tens of thousands of reviews on Steam, and the best part was that all of these were mostly positive.
But, now it seems that the player count has dropped yet again, and Landfall is now done with it. It announced on Steam that the player count has not been great starting summer, furthermore, the relaunch also did not go as they had wanted it to. There were various factors for that and the team takes full responsibility for it. Landfall says that they had another studio on board that was responsible for focusing on the F2P parts of the game. This was so that the main team could actually work towards making new, interesting, and fun content for the game. But, in the end, it did not work out, and Landfall had to do the F2P aspects such as the store themselves, and thus could not make the new content that they initially planned on.
Landfall believes that if they could have added the new content on time along with fixing the game’s issues such as various bugs, performance issues, anti-cheat issues, etc. then they could have managed to have better player retention. They also spoke a great deal about their development plans, to read about all of that in detail, click here.
So, if you loved playing Totally Accurate Battlegrounds, then this must be disappointing for you. However, the server will still be up, and regular checks with anti-cheat and proper functioning would be done. It’s just that there would be no new content.
