After nearly eight years after we last saw Michael, Trevor, and Franklin in Grand Theft Auto V, Grand Theft Auto Online is now revealing what happened to them.
The Contract is a new GTA Online update that lets players team up with none other than Franklin Clinton. Fans haven't seen or heard from him since the conclusion of GTA V, but the expansion indicates he's still alive and well, striving to create a "client solutions" business for Los Santos' rich and famous.

For fans, The Contract is chock-full of amusing tale tidbits. Lamar Davis, for example, is still stalking Franklin and torturing him. Franklin is now the proud father of three children! And a semblance of a normal existence! That is not at all shabby. But what about GTA V's other two main protagonists?

If you've finished GTA V, you'll know Franklin has a choice: kill Michael, kill Trevor, or work with them both to find a way out of their predicament.

For years, fans have debated which of these endings is "canon," and The Contract gives compelling proof that Ending C (the greatest) is the one that truly occurred in Rockstar's mind.
Players will drive past a movie set at one point during The Contract in search of someone who has incurred Dr. Dre's anger. Franklin says he knows one of the producers and hopes "his ass ain't at work today" during the chase.

This is a clear nod to our hero Michael, who achieves his dream job as a movie producer near the end of GTA V, at the same studio that players dash through in The Contract. This confirms that Michael is still alive and well in 2021, which is fantastic news.
