According to CD Projekt, work on the next-gen upgrade for Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 is in progress. The Witcher 3 gets a next-gen upgrade in the second quarter, while the Cyberpunk next-gen update arrives in the first quarter of 2022 according to the information received from CD Projekt's 2021 third-quarter financial report.
"We're hard at work on the next-gen version of Cyberpunk, which will be released in the first quarter of 2022 alongside a huge upgrade for all platforms," the article said. "Work on the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 and the Cyberpunk expansion is also proceeding."
After Cyberpunk gets its next-gen upgrade, The Witcher 3 will get its next-gen upgrade in the second quarter of 2022. According to the same article, Cyberpunk's next-gen upgrade would be accompanied by a "big update," which was initially hinted at in an interview with a Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.
CD Projekt president Adam Kiciski confirmed in that report that Cyberpunk 2077 would receive two updates early next year, the first of which would be a next-gen upgrade. "Cyberpunk 2077 will be viewed as a really good game," he added, adding that "like our other products, it will sell for years."
Apart from the next-gen enhancements, CD Projekt also announced that it would be expanding its internal teams and beginning "exploratory work" on new projects, the specifics of which were not revealed.
After a disappointing launch last year, Cyberpunk 2077 appears to be making a strong comeback. Recent Steam reviews have improved to "extremely positive," and the game has risen to near the top of the best-sellers list. That could explain why Cyberpunk's sticker price was reduced by 50% during the autumn sale.
Until those next-gen advancements arrive, Cyberpunk is still best played on PC, but everyone who bought the games on last-gen consoles will get them for free.
