Fortnite is a name that almost every person that stays updated with the gaming industry knows of. After all, in terms of popularity there are very few games that can match up to Fortnite. Not to mention, it even has a very large, and active eSports scene, along with an even larger and more active player base. Now it seems that we might just get a movie for this game. At least, according to Epic that is.

The concept for a Fortnite movie has not been out there so far, but now it is. This is due to the recent statement of the publisher that has surfaced recently which talks around the lines of a feature-length Fornite film. What it will be like? Well that we do not know yet. This new comes from a report that Eurogamer found on The Information. This suggests the move is just an attempt from Epic to diversify after Epic’s legal battle with Apple that has been going on for a while. For those of you who are unaware, this legal battle is about Epic not being happy with Apple’s 30% commission that they take on every in-app purchase for Fortnite on iOS. Epic Games wanted it to be reduced, if not removed entirely by a bypass. And, just a FYI here, Epic also went on a similar legal battle with Google for similar reasons.

Anyway, now that Epic has a number of restrictions in the mobile space, according to The Information, Epic wants to start an entertainment division. This division would be focused on various scripted video content. So, movies, films, maybe even some animated comics, etc. However, none of it is official as of now. But, The Information came to this conclusion after Epic ended up hiring three executives from Lucasfilm. This also includes Jason McGatlin who was the former VP of physical production for Star Wars studio. And, has now become the head of Special Projects at Epic. Special Projects might be the division that is responsible for the entertainment and scripted video content.

However, as I said before, it is not official as of now. At this point, it is just speculation from The Information. However, why would a brand such as Epic hire executives of a production company such as Lucasfilm if they are not planning on diving into the video content field? So, I personally think, that this might very well be official, and we should be knowing more soon.
