In Japan, a guy was jailed after sneaking into his ex-house girlfriend's and taking her Nintendo Switch, despite claiming to have an explanation.

After sneaking into her house and stealing her Nintendo Switch, a man in Japan did not take his girlfriend's breakup well and was jailed. He was a 34-year-old guy from the Hokkaido prefecture's city of Chitose.

Although the incident occurred in June, he was caught just last Saturday. The man acknowledged to the accusations, but explained why he committed them (and no, it wasn't because she had retained her Pokémon).

Her ex-partner, it appears, owes her money. He lent her money while they were still dating, but he did not return it after they broke up. "I stole his Switch to cover it in part since he hadn't paid me back yet," he explained, seemingly with the aim of reselling it.

Although no penalty has been given, his ex-partner will no longer have to worry about the man breaking into his home without permission, and she has also reclaimed his Nintendo Switch.

If your Nintendo Switch is ever lost or stolen, having it saved in the cloud is a smart idea so you can at least get your data back. Of course, saving to the cloud is only available to Nintendo Switch Online customers, the paid online service that recently made headlines when it announced that its members will receive free Nintendo 64 and Mega Drive titles.
