Splitgate: Arena Warfare has been released quite a while back. For those of you are unaware, Splitgate: Arena Warfare is a game that has brought together two popular games into one, the games are Portal and Halo. Ever since its release, it has kept on getting more popular. This resulted in it breaking multiple Steam records and also making the devs increase the server capacity to ensure all the players can play it. And, now the developer of the game, 1047 Games is saying that it going to build the studio to be the next Riot Games.
Speaking to TechCrunch, 1047 Co-Founder and CEO Ian Proulx attributes this success to Splitgate innovating in a genre, the arena shooter, that hasn't seen many major releases in recent years. That coupled with the fact that this game is also very much accessible makes it even better. And, that is not everything either. On top of that there is the sentiment factor as well. Many people grew up playing Halo and Quake games, and now that this game is a blend of both, definitely attracts many who were fond of playing those genres.
Six months ago, when the developers were in need of money, all the investors refused. According to them, they went to almost every investor, and everyone refused. However, later, when Splitgate finally started gaining popularity, the next round of investing went a lot better, and they had managed to get around $116 Million USD. This gave them a big push, from a small team with a small budget to something that can actually make a game that can challenge those from more popular names.
Ian Prolux also states that they are focusing for the long term. They do not need to be as big as Fornite tomorrow, but, they definitely are building the next Riot games. Furthermore, he also states that the game is 25% done, as the team continues to make efforts in getting it out of beta.
