Destiny 2 got crossplay with the latest Season 15, Season of the Lost. Crossplay is something that was announced quite some time ago for Destiny 2. But, it finally made its way to the game very recently. Anyway, with the addition of this feature, crossplay voice chat was not yet added. However, now, on Friday we finally got an update that also added the crossplay voice chat. So, now while playing with different players from different you can also chat with them directly in-game.
All of this got implemented in the game with Destiny 2's 3.3.0.1 update that came on Friday. However, Xbox players might be a little bit disappointed as the function is not working all that properly for Xbox players. The issue is that Xbox players will still hear anyone in the lobby, even if their chat settings are set to friends only, and even if they mute that player. So, that is something of an issue.
This is not the first time that crossplay has made its way to Destiny 2 though. Well, officially it is, however, back in May 2021, Bungie accidentally enabled crossplay for Destiny 2. That time, it was a mistake, and the feature was kept enabled for a week or so. After that week it got disabled, and then finally got implemented in the game, this time not accidentally, in Season of the Lost.
Bungie has a helpful cross-play guide if you want to take on Riven or Atheon with friends from the console. Unsurprisingly, competitive mode matchmaking will separate console and PC to keep things fair, while non-competitive modes will match across platforms. If you disable crossplay, you will only match up with other players on the same platform who also have crossplay disabled. So, if you are not a fan of crossplay, then no worries, you can stick to playing with people from the same platform as you with just changing a setting. Furthermore, Clans can also be cross-platform now.
So, if you are looking to have a good time with your friends from other platforms on Destiny 2, it seems that you can have it now. And, to make things better, you would not have to use third-party apps for a voice communication either, as the game has it in-game now. Well, there is a bit of an issue with Xbox players, however, that should soon be getting fixed.
