According to Gabe Newell, PC manufacturers such as Dell or Alienware will be able to offer their own Steam Deck models in the future. Valve also comments on the low sales price and states that they are confident that they will be able to sell large quantities of the hardware and thus create their own ecosystem. A few days ago, hardware and software manufacturer Valve announced a new product that appeared out of nowhere. This is the Steam Deck, a handheld version of a PC, which, however, also works on the home television or monitor via a docking station. Basically, the system is therefore similar to the Nintendo Switch, which originally appeared in 2017 and was a complete success.
Steam Deck: Gabe Newell on Price and Third-Party Maker
In an interview with the online magazine IGN, Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve, spoke for the first time about the future plans of the Steam Deck. First of all, Newell states that the low price point was a tough but critical decision. According to his expectations, the product will be the starting signal for an entire ecosystem of products and it is expected that several million units of the Steam Deck will be sold in the near future. In the long run, the entry price will definitely be worth it.
Newell also states that he hopes other PC manufacturers - such as Dell or Alienware - will also offer their own versions of the Steam Deck in the future. Another design or other components would be conceivable. Logically, these products would then also have to be equipped with SteamOS in order to be able to belong to the same product category. It would be conceivable that manufacturers would now wait for the number of pre-orders and user experiences in order to consider entering the deck ecosystem.
