AMD’s answer to NVIDIA DLSS AI Acceleration came out in the form of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution. Just a few days ago, the source code for it became openly available. That meant the addition of it in more games will be simpler than ever. Being available online, it was also made possible for modders to implement AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution in games. And, that is just what happened. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR, which is undoubtedly one of the most favorite games of modders, just got a mod that enables AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution to be used in the game. I won’t say I am much surprised, with it going open source, and Skyrim being a game with a ton of mods, and a very active modding community, this was quite expected.
AMD FSR technology got added to SteamVR. And, that indirectly led to supported VR games such as Skyrim VR capable of using AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution. VR is very much demanding and definitely needs a lot of power to run. AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution is going to ensure that this task is not as demanding now. It will provide the much needed boost to the frame rates. And, the best part? There will not be much visible degradation in terms of visual quality. So, better FPS in VR, while not losing any visual fidelity. Great!
The best part of AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution is the fact that it can be used on not only AMD cards, but also on NVIDIA cards. Unlike DLSS AI Acceleration which is only exclusive to NVIDIA RTX cards. That in itself makes AMD FSR a lot better than DLSS AI Acceleration for many users. Modders such as fholger have added it to games such as GTA V themselves, and are keeping on working to make it available on even more games. Fholger has also shown in a github page, a side by side comparison for Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR as well. It also goes on in detail regarding how to implement and use it, etc. The best part is that any game that uses Open VR and runs on DirectX 11 can use this mod. Check out the github page for more details on this.
